SASHA’s vision for a decarbonised EU Aviation Strategy
Call for evidence | May 2026
Introduction
The SASHA Coalition responded to the European Commission’s call for evidence on the EU Aviation Strategy.
Our response
When the EU launched its Aviation Strategy in 2015, decarbonisation had not yet become a defining pillar of aviation policy, despite already recognising that the future competitiveness of the sector and environmental sustainability would go hand in hand. Since then, the European Union has fundamentally reshaped its policy framework, notably through the Fit for 55 package and the legally binding objectives enshrined in the EU Climate Law.
With increasing geopolitical tensions and aviation emissions still on the rise, decarbonisation is now no longer a peripheral consideration: it has become central to achieve Europe’s objectives on climate leadership, industrial competitiveness, and energy sovereignty.
For the transition of the aviation sector to succeed, the SASHA Coalition proposes three key priorities that should be placed at the heart of the future EU Aviation Strategy:
Create the conditions for the e-fuels business case to take off.
Support zero-carbon emission flights from research to market.
Ensure that the EU aviation policy rewards genuine decarbonisation pathways.
