Press statement: UK aviation funding is strong but could undermine green innovators
London, 16 June 2026: The UK Department for Transport has announced strong additional funding to sustainable aviation innovators, but a call for evidence announced at the same time opens the door to watering down the SAF Mandate power-to-liquid (PtL) fuels (or e-kerosene) sub-targets. Mandates provide the regulatory certainty Britain's most ambitious innovators need to attract investment and reach commercial scale.
Our Advocacy Manager, Nuala Doyle, said:
"Just a year since the SAF Mandate was introduced, watering it down would risk undermining investor certainty just when projects are approaching final investment decision. Rolling back on the regulation's original ambition makes the prospect of us missing them a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Instead we should make that ambition a reality by targeting funds to PtL as the most sustainable fuel that is most in need of support."
